Despite the impressive 3-0 win, Cardoso acknowledged that the team must improve as they face formidable conditions in Bamako for the second leg next weekend.
“Absolutely, unfortunately we had Thapelo Morena injured in the situation in the last match, it was a red-card, it was not given. We saw in the last match here two situations that were taken from us or none existence of VAR,” said Cardoso, speaking to SABC Sport after the match.
He elaborated on the necessity of VAR in modern football: “Referees should be helped, the game becomes too quick nowadays, too much pressure, they need help and this is a fantastic instrument to help the referees.” He emphasised that supporting referees is essential for the betterment of the game, noting, “Nothing against the referees, just supporting them so that they become better like we because we also for videos.”
As they prepare for the return fixture, the Tshwane giants remain grounded, acutely aware that the task is far from over. Cardoso remarked, “Obviously, when you get a result of 3-0 it gives you some comfort, but that’s a dangerous spot you might well fall in. We cannot fall in the attitude of thinking it’s going to be easy or it’s done.”
He stated firmly, “That’s the biggest mistake we can take on the trip, we’re not going to party there. There’ll be for sure a test for us, we need to play to win this match. But as you said for now rest and then prepare for Marumo Gallants,” concluded the Portuguese manager.
