Nigeria is taking significant strides in its ambition to host the 15th African Games in 2031 as the National Sports Commission (NSC) welcomed the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Evaluation Team to the country for an extensive review.

The announcement was made on Wednesday via the NSC’s social media account on X, highlighting the ongoing assessments of Nigeria’s capabilities.

The AUSC delegation is conducting a thorough inspection of critical sporting venues, supporting infrastructure, and the nation’s overall preparedness to host this prestigious continental event. “The visit marks a critical milestone in the bidding process, with technical experts assessing Nigeria against established continental hosting standards,” stated the NSC.

The focus of Nigeria’s bid extends beyond just hosting the Games. “Nigeria’s bid is anchored on a clear vision, not only to host the Games, but to deliver long-term impact through infrastructure development, youth engagement, and economic opportunities driven by sport,” the NSC emphasized.

With a solid history of managing major international sporting events and ongoing investments in its sports infrastructure, Nigeria is positioning itself as a formidable contender for the Games. “The leadership of the NSC reaffirmed its commitment to presenting a compelling case, one that reflects Nigeria’s capacity, organisational strength, and ambition to deliver a world-class African Games experience,” the commission added.
