In a match marred by missed opportunities, Bayelsa United’s struggle for form continued as they fell to Abia Warriors, with a 1-0 defeat highlighting their ongoing challenges in the Nigeria Premier Football League. The clash took place on Monday as part of matchday 33 of the NPFL.
The only goal of the game came from former NPFL top scorer Chukwuemeka Obioma, who found the net in the second half, sealing Bayelsa’s fate during a tense encounter.
Following the match, Bayelsa United’s technical adviser, Meremu Okara, lamented the team’s inability to convert chances. “The game of football is all about creating and converting chances. We didn’t take our chances in the game, and it cost us,” Okara explained in a post-match interview.
Okara also expressed frustration with his defenders, pointing to a lack of concentration that permitted the Warriors to score. “Abia Warriors scored their goal due to the carelessness of our defenders. We created about three chances which we didn’t take,” he added.
Despite the setback, Bayelsa United remains in the 16th position on the league table. The Prosperity Boys are now looking to regroup as they prepare to host Wikki Tourists in their next match this coming weekend.
