Transfers

As the race for the Premier League title intensifies, Arsenal is set to host Everton at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday, looking to further strengthen their lead at the top.

The Gunners, managed by Mikel Arteta, currently enjoy a seven-point advantage over second-placed Manchester City, having played one match more than their closest rivals. This fixture comes on the heels of a challenging 1-1 draw in the Champions League round of 16 against Bayer Leverkusen, where they displayed resilience amidst intense competition.

Arsenal’s upcoming match against Everton is crucial, especially as the Toffees are vying for a position in European competitions. Piero Hincapie, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, is expected to play a key role in the Arsenal defense, which has remarkably only conceded 22 league goals this season.

While Hincapie is currently at Arsenal on a loan agreement, the club has reportedly reached a five-year deal with a £45 million option to buy, although he technically remains a Leverkusen player for now. The confirmation of his impending transfer has been hinted at by a key club official.

Leverkusen Chief Hints at Hincapie Transfer

Just prior to Arsenal’s Champions League match, Bayer Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes discussed the emotional return of former player Kai Havertz while inadvertently acknowledging Hincapie’s future at Arsenal. He stated, “I’ve already texted him (Havertz), so I’m sure he’ll need a lot of tickets as he comes from here.”

Rolfes further elaborated on the significance of the occasion, noting, “And then it’s also nice when he went to Chelsea during Covid; it was a big farewell for us. Because of Covid, there was never the opportunity to say goodbye properly. But now, I think it’s a very special setting for him to come back to the BayArena and for Piero [Hincapie] too.”

Arsenal Eyes Julian Alvarez

In addition to their progress on player transfers, Arsenal has been linked to former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, who is currently making waves in La Liga with Atletico Madrid. Recent reports suggest that Arsenal’s pursuit of the Argentine international might have received a significant boost, as Atletico is reportedly reluctant to sell to direct rivals.

With Barcelona reportedly interested in Alvarez, it has been conveyed that Atletico Madrid may only entertain offers exceeding £86 million for the forward, distancing him from a move to a competitive rival. Having already impressed Arsenal supporters with two goals in a recent 5-2 victory against Tottenham, Alvarez’s addition could further bolster the Gunners’ attacking options.
