Moses Simon, the Nigerian forward celebrated for his pivotal role at Belgian club Gent, received a heartfelt tribute from fans and officials over the weekend. The ceremony was held prior to Gent’s match against Mechelen, highlighting Simon’s significant contributions during his tenure at the club.
Simon joined Gent in January 2015 from AS Trenčín and quickly established himself as a vital component of coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s strategy. His arrival was marked by a historic achievement, helping the team secure its first-ever national Championship title just months later, in May 2015.
In addition to his Championship success, Simon played a crucial part in the team’s victory in the Belgian Super Cup, providing an assist for Laurent Depoitre’s winning goal against Club Brugge. This double achievement remains an unparalleled milestone in Gent’s history.
After a successful stint at Gent, where he tallied 21 goals and 16 assists in 136 appearances, Simon moved to Levante in 2018 for a club-record fee. He is currently competing in Ligue 1 with Paris FC.
