In a match that saw opportunities squandered, Fulham defender Calvin Bassey lamented a crucial missed chance following his side’s goalless draw against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The encounter at the City Ground was marked by both teams battling for important points; Nottingham Forest aimed to climb away from the relegation zone, while Fulham sought to maintain their hopes for European qualification.

Despite both sides creating several scoring opportunities, neither could find the back of the net. Nottingham Forest thought they had gained the lead with a goal by Dan Ndoye, but a VAR review ruled the striker marginally offside.
Bassey, who has been a key figure in Fulham’s defense, had a golden opportunity to secure victory. The Super Eagles centre-back rose to meet a precise cross from a set-piece but was thwarted by an outstanding save from goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Bassey Reflects on Missed Opportunity
Following the match, Bassey expressed his frustration over the missed header, acknowledging it as a significant opportunity lost. He also highlighted the challenging conditions presented by the weather.
“It was a big chance. I wasn’t sure if I was onside or offside at the moment. I timed the jump well, but I hit it straight at the keeper. It’s got to be a goal,” Bassey admitted. “The conditions were tough for both teams; the pitch and the wind made it a difficult game to manage. We tried to handle the situation as best we could.”
European Ambitions Hit but Not Over
The draw allowed Nottingham Forest to move up to 17th in the Premier League standings, while Fulham remains 11th with 41 points from 30 matches. Although this result hampers Fulham’s chances of a European placement, Bassey remains hopeful.
“I don’t think [a European finish] is ruled out yet. We are taking it one game at a time; anything can happen in this league. I haven’t spent too much time looking at the table, but hopefully, things work in our favor,” he added.
Fulham’s next match will see them face Burnley at Craven Cottage, where Bassey will aim to help his team secure three points to keep their continental aspirations alive.
