Vincent Kompany’s remarkable ascent as head coach of Bayern Munich has not gone unnoticed, especially by his former Manchester City teammate David Silva, who expressed pride in his achievements.

Kompany took the reins at Bayern Munich in 2024, following a difficult season that saw him relegated from the Premier League with Burnley. Since then, he has swiftly made his mark on German football.

In his first term, the former Manchester City captain led Bayern to secure the Bundesliga title and began the current season with a triumph in the German Super Cup. Under his leadership, the team currently enjoys a commanding nine-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga and boasts a decisive 6-1 advantage over Atalanta in their Champions League last-16 tie.

Silva, who played alongside Kompany for nearly a decade at Manchester City, reflected on his friend’s managerial potential, stating, “Even back when he was a player, you could tell he wanted to be a coach.” He praised Kompany’s analytical approach, communication skills, and hard work, adding that he’s “doing an outstanding job overall. He’s definitely a contender for the Champions League title.”

The experienced midfielder further highlighted, “I’m very happy for him. He has everything under control, he thinks deeply about things, and works incredibly hard. Vincent always had the makings of a coach.” He emphasized that Bayern Munich’s winning culture is a perfect fit for Kompany’s ambitions: “Now he’s landed at a club like Bayern, which is used to winning – an ideal combination. He’s young, hungry, and pays attention to every detail. At the same time, he instils confidence in his players.”

Since taking over, Kompany has managed Bayern in 96 matches, achieving an impressive 72 victories and suffering only 11 losses. The team has also been prolific in front of goal, with only Barcelona scoring more than Bayern’s 289 goals across all competitions since the start of last season. Their expected goals tally of 249.6 stands at the top of Europe’s elite leagues.

“You can see that everyone is pulling in the same direction,” Silva noted, summing up the spirit of Kompany’s squad. “Bayern’s results and this desire to always want to top them are a very strong trademark of his.”
