In a groundbreaking move that signals a new era for women’s football at Borussia Dortmund, the club has confirmed that former Germany captain Alexandra Popp will join their squad as a free agent for the 2026-27 season.

Popp will join the Regionalliga West side on a three-year contract following the conclusion of the current season, marking the end of her illustrious 14-year tenure with Wolfsburg. Over her remarkable career, she has made an impressive 332 appearances in the Frauen-Bundesliga, netting 158 goals while securing seven league titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies during her time at Wolfsburg, in addition to one with FCR 2001 Duisburg.
Despite announcing her retirement from international football in 2024, Popp continues to demonstrate her prowess on the pitch, being one of only five players to score in double digits in the German top-flight this season.
She was officially welcomed by fans at Signal Iduna Park prior to Dortmund’s 2-0 Bundesliga victory over Augsburg on Saturday.
