Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner is preparing for the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters with a candid acknowledgment of his mixed feelings toward clay courts. While he may not prefer the surface, his impressive track record speaks volumes about his competitiveness in this arena.
Sinner has already achieved notable success on clay, including a remarkable semifinal appearance at the 2024 Roland Garros and a solid 72% win rate throughout his career on this surface.
In a recent interaction with the media in Monte Carlo, Sinner expressed his determination to adapt to the unique challenges posed by clay during this season. “I do like to play on clay, but it’s not my favourite surface,” he remarked. “I do believe I can play some good tennis.”
The young Italian reflected on his past near-misses at Masters 1000 events, saying, “I haven’t won any [Masters 1000 clay events] yet, but I’ve been close here a couple of times. I can’t predict the future, but it would be nice to win here… It’s a tournament I love to play and I’m happy to be here.”
As he gears up for the challenging matches ahead, Sinner aims to harness his experiences and confidence in the hope of securing a breakthrough victory at one of his beloved tournaments.
