Close behind him is MOFA striker Vincent Nyabuto, who has scored 12 goals so far this campaign.
Nyabuto once again proved decisive for his side after scoring the only goal in MOFA’s narrow 1-0 victory over Naivas FC at Raila Odinga Stadium.
The former Shabana FC forward says he remains focused on helping his team secure promotion while also targeting the league’s top scorer award.
“I’m praying I stay injury-free at the end of the season because I want to be the top scorer and help the team qualify for the SportPesa League,” said Nyabuto.
For MOFA, the journey towards promotion has not been easy, especially in the second half of the season, where competition has intensified across the league.
Assistant coach Fobian Hosea admitted that teams have significantly improved following reinforcements made during the mid-season transfer window. “The second leg has been tough because all the teams prepared well, having beefed up their squads in the mid-season transfer window,” Hosea said.
He added that the team must remain mentally strong if they are to achieve their promotion ambitions. “For us to achieve our objectives, we have to change our mentality. The players must up their game and work hard in upcoming games,” he added.
Despite the strong positions held by the top three teams, the race for promotion is far from settled, with several clubs still hoping to force their way into the top tier. Fourth-placed 3K FC and fifth-placed Equity Bank remain within striking distance of the promotion places.
Both teams have collected 37 points so far, although 3K FC currently hold the advantage due to a superior goal difference.
With several matches still left before the end of the campaign, the two clubs believe they still have a realistic chance of closing the gap and breaking into the top three.
While the battle for promotion is heating up at the top of the table, the fight to avoid relegation is proving equally intense.
Former top-flight side Kisumu All Stars, Mwatate United, Mully Children’s Family FC, and Vihiga United are all struggling near the bottom of the standings and remain in danger of dropping to the lower division.
With the season entering its decisive phase, every point will be crucial as teams at both ends of the table battle either to secure promotion to the Kenyan Premier League or avoid the disappointment of relegation.
