As Marcus Rashford’s loan spell at Barcelona reaches its conclusion, the question on many lips is whether the Manchester United forward will make a permanent switch to the Catalan club this summer. However, recent developments suggest that a move may be increasingly unlikely.

Reports indicate that Barcelona is weighing alternative options, focusing their sights on Chelsea’s Pedro Neto as a potential substitute for Rashford. Having spent the current season on loan at the Camp Nou with an option for a €30m permanent deal, Rashford has impressively netted 10 goals and provided 13 assists in various competitions.
Despite Rashford’s noteworthy performances, Barcelona is keen to explore other avenues, including the signing of Chelsea’s dynamic winger, Neto. The Portuguese talent was acquired by Chelsea in 2024 for £54m from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has since made 93 appearances for the club, contributing 19 goals across competitions.
Neto is tied to Chelsea until the summer of 2031 but has recently found himself in controversy, including a one-match FA ban for misconduct following his red card against Arsenal. He is also under scrutiny for an incident involving a ball boy during a defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, for which he has expressed regret.
Reflecting on Neto’s recent actions, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior remarked, “I’ve watched it back and it doesn’t look good. I understand Pedro’s perspective and his want to win, but there are ways you go about it. I was so impressed that he wanted to apologise straight away. We all make mistakes; it’s about learning from them and making sure they don’t happen again.”

As for Rashford, he aims to continue making an impact as the season draws to a close. Ahead of this weekend’s encounter with Sevilla, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick stated, “Marcus was away for a few days and has come back strong. I haven’t decided yet, but he’s a good option [to start].”
If things go well, Rashford could achieve his first league title, with Barcelona currently sitting four points ahead of rivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
Conversely, Chelsea faces a challenging path to secure a Champions League spot under Rosenior. The Blues currently sit fifth in the league, trailing Aston Villa by three points.
