In a significant development for Nigerian football, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has received official clearance from FIFA to represent Nigeria at the senior level, according to reports by Completesports.com. The 24-year-old, who was born in London to Nigerian parents and previously donned the England colours at youth level, is set to make his international debut following his recent approval.

The exciting news comes just in time for Okonkwo, who plays for Wrexham in the Championship, as he becomes available for selection with the Super Eagles in the upcoming international window. This includes the defence of their Unity Cup title in May, a tournament that has already attracted participation from teams such as Iran and Jamaica.

Head Coach Éric Chelle may look to integrate Okonkwo into the squad, as he is expected to rotate lesser-used players during the friendly matches. The Super Eagles will also have two high-profile friendlies against Poland and Portugal scheduled for June.

A former Arsenal youth player, Okonkwo has gained valuable experience during loan spells with Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz before sealing a permanent transfer to Wrexham in 2024. Since making the move, he has emerged as one of the standout goalkeepers in the Sky Bet Championship, solidifying his reputation in English football.
