In a landmark transfer, Allan Okello has become the latest talent to make waves in East African football, completing a move from Vipers SC to Tanzania’s Young Africans SC.

The Ugandan international midfielder’s switch is reported to be valued at $300,000 (approximately UGX 1 billion), making him the second most expensive player ever sold by Vipers SC, trailing only Farouk Miya’s $400,000 transfer to Belgium’s Standard Liège back in 2016.

According to NBS Sport, this deal also surpasses the $200,000 Vipers received for Cesar Manzoki’s move to a Chinese club.

Okello’s Journey to Young Africans SC

The 25-year-old has secured a three-year contract with Yanga, concluding a protracted interest from the Tanzanian champions in his services.

Notably, Vipers SC had previously rebuffed a more lucrative $500,000 proposal from Yanga at the onset of the 2025/26 season, prioritising their ambitions in the CAF Champions League.

This decision reflected their aim to retain Okello, who, if transferred at that time, would have set a new record for the club’s outgoing transfers.

However, the club’s aspirations for the continent were dashed when they failed to progress to the group stages, intensifying their dilemma. With Okello now in the final year of his contract and showing no intent to renew, Vipers opted to sell him during the January transfer window rather than risk losing him for free at the season’s end.

Okello departs Vipers on a triumphant note, having played a pivotal role in the club claiming both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup in the 2024/25 season.

In addition to his achievements, Okello secured the Golden Boot in the league, netting an impressive 19 goals and firmly establishing himself as a vital asset in Vipers’ success.

His transfer to Young Africans SC is anticipated to enhance their squad as they aspire for further supremacy in the Tanzanian Premier League and aim for success on the continental front.

This move not only offers Okello a fresh challenge but also a platform to showcase his skills in a competitive league and the prestigious CAF Champions League.
