Crystal Palace has secured a place in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, showcasing their resilience in a narrow 2-1 defeat against Fiorentina on Thursday night.
After a commanding 3-0 victory in the first leg, the Eagles began the match with confidence. Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the European campaign and 17th of the season, giving Palace an early advantage. However, Fiorentina responded with a penalty from Albert Gudmundsson, narrowing their deficit to three goals.
The home side surged ahead on the night with a goal from Cher Ndour eight minutes into the second half. Despite the hosts’ efforts, Palace held firm throughout the second half, edging closer to a significant final in Leipzig.
The London club will now face Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals, who advanced after defeating AZ 5-2 on aggregate, following a 2-2 draw in the Netherlands.
However, Palace faced challenges during the match as they lost both Adam Wharton and Maxence Lacroix to injuries in the first half. Manager Oliver Glasner will be hopeful that their injuries are not severe.
