In a historic moment for KwaZulu-Natal football, Durban City has secured the Nedbank Cup with a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over TS Galaxy.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for the club, as they become the first team from the region to capture the coveted Ke Yona Cup in its 23-year history.

With this victory, Durban City not only takes home R7 million but also qualifies for the CAF Confederation Cup next season—a notable achievement for the club.
Having previously come close in the 2017/18 season as Maritzburg United, when they lost to Free State Stars, City has finally claimed the trophy after nearly a decade of trying.
The match saw City recover from an early setback, with TS Galaxy taking the lead just before halftime through an unfortunate own goal by Jean Lwamba Lubumba in the 43rd minute. However, City responded strongly, equalising in the second half with a goal from Mfanafuthi Mkhize in the 58th minute. Lubumba redeemed himself by scoring the winning goal in the 71st minute.
After the match, interim coach Pitso Dladla took the opportunity to express his gratitude to everyone affiliated with the club, downplaying his personal contribution. He emphasised, “Congratulations to the players; we’ve got a group of players that is resilient. A group of players that’s got a never-die attitude.”
Dladla continued his heartfelt appreciation, stating, “For me, it’s just to thank them. We’ve been through tough games and we had that belief that we’ll do it.” He extended thanks to the coaching staff and support team, acknowledging the contributions from various individuals, including logistics and medical staff.
“I know our Chairman, GM, they will thank the other partners because they also supported us through this journey, word of encouragement, resources being injected in this project. But, at the end of the day, we wouldn’t have made it if our supporters were not here,” he added, reflecting on the critical role of Fans in their success.
While addressing the supporters in the stands, Dladla remarked, “I feel like I’m in Chatsworth Stadium,” highlighting the pivotal role of the fans in the team’s remarkable journey.
