In a significant show of support for women’s football in Ghana, First Lady Lordina Mahama has made a substantial donation to the national Under-17 and Under-20 teams as they gear up for critical international competitions. The donation, formally presented on May 22, 2026, was delivered by Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, during a ceremony at the GFA Technical Centre in Prampram. This initiative aims to motivate and bolster Ghana’s young female footballers, who are set to represent their nation on the world stage. Currently, the Black Maidens are preparing to face Liberia in the first leg of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, scheduled for May 23, 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The First Lady’s donation is anticipated to lift the spirits within both teams, underscoring national backing for these young athletes who embody the pride of their nation.
The gesture included a range of essential supplies, such as cartons of Milo, toiletries, and soft drinks, all intended to enhance the well-being of the players and their coaching staff. These provisions aim to improve living conditions in the training camp and facilitate effective preparations for their upcoming matches.
Simultaneously, the Black Princesses have advanced to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, having successfully navigated past Uganda in the qualifiers, marking an impressive eighth consecutive appearance in the tournament for Ghana.
