Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana will miss the CAF Champions League second-leg semifinals against Esperance de Tunis on Saturday after picking up a red card in the 1-0 first-leg win on Sunday.

One of the defenders who could have the chance to start the game on Saturday is young Khulumani Ndamane, who has said that, despite the chance to play, he cannot celebrate Kekana’s red card.

Addressing the media on Wednesday at Chloorkop ahead of the game, Ndamane said that they will miss the services of the experienced Kekana.

“Yeah, I can say like that, but it doesn’t mean when Grant (Kekana) gets a red card, I should celebrate that I will play. I should play at the right time when I am supposed to play, then I will help the team,” Ndamane said.

The Bafana Bafana defender then further indicated that the absence of Kekana is a big blow to the team.

“The absence of Grant (Kekana) is a big blow to us because, as you saw in the last game, he has experience. But since the other guys are there, we will hold on and see how we do it,” Ndamane observed.

Sundowns have different options in central defence in the absence of Kekana, including Ndamane himself, Malibongwe Khoza, Keano Cupido, and Keagan Johannes. It’s now all up to the coach to decide the right central defence pairing for the game on Saturday.
