After physical and brutal challenges dominated a couple of the big fixtures in the Betway Premiership, involving Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns, Soccer Laduma looks at which teams have been the most ill-disciplined so far this season.

With Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou dubbing Chiefs’ approach in the Soweto derby a “karate” match, it’s safe to say the encounter between Sundowns and Chiefs in mid-week could easily be referred to as a “wrestling” match, as at least two players, Keanu Cupido and Mduduzi Shabalala, had to be rushed to the hospital with broken shoulders from tackles.

Amakhosi midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu emerged as a villain once again, committing the most fouls in the game, including getting away with only a yellow card for a high-boot tackle on Cupido, who could be ruled out for the rest of the season, according to early reports from the game.

Looking at the Fair Play statistics, with only a few rounds of matches remaining, Sundowns defender Khulumani Ndamane has so far received the most yellow cards in the league (nine), followed by Chiefs’ Inacio Miguel with eight.

Magesi FC midfielder Lehlohonolo Mtshali has received the most red cards, after being sent off twice this season, once getting two yellow cards in a game and also getting a straight red card in another match.

For teams as a whole, Stellenbosch FC is currently leading with the most yellow cards (46), closely followed by the Brazilians (43) and Chiefs (41).

Orlando Pirates, surprisingly, have received the fewest yellow cards of all the teams in the league, with a total of only 26 cautions, and they are yet to have one of their players red-carded this season.

TS Galaxy, Stellies and Dikwena are tied on a total of four dismissals, as teams that have had the most players sent off.

Chiefs and Chippa United are in the same camp with Pirates as sides yet to have a player dismissed this campaign.
