In a significant ruling that underscores the Ghana Football Association’s commitment to regulatory compliance, Hohoe United FC has been expelled from the Ghana Premier League and all other competitions until the end of the 2029/2030 season. This decision was announced by the GFA Disciplinary Committee on Friday, May 1, 2026.

The controversial verdict comes after Hohoe United withdrew from the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, a move the committee deemed a violation of Article 13 of the league’s regulations. The club informed the GFA of its decision to cease participation on April 1, 2026, subsequently failing to honor their remaining fixtures.

In light of the suspension, all registered players of Hohoe United FC will gain Free Agent status, as declared by the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee. This status releases them from any contractual obligations to the club, save for conditions tied to their original transfers.

The sanctions extend to the club’s competitive status, relegating Hohoe United to Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association once their suspension concludes. Additionally, the club is mandated to return all financial and material support received from the GFA during the current season.

The ruling also stressed that the suspension does not absolve Hohoe United of any outstanding debts owed to the GFA or its affiliates. According to GFA Statutes, the club has a three-day window to appeal the Disciplinary Committee’s ruling if they find the decision unsatisfactory.
