Durban City interim coach Pitso Dladla says it is essential that local coaches work together for the benefit of developing the national team, Bafana Bafana.

Addressing the media after his team’s Nedbank Cup triumph, Dladla said that the role the coaches are playing is very important, emphasising that it’s not about being competitors but working together for the good of the game.

“As coaches, it’s beyond being the competitors now,” he said.

“We want to improve the game. We also make sure that we coach the teams and prepare the players in such a way that the national team can benefit. So basically, what I meant by that was the fact that the skill has changed now. Wetalk football to improve it.

“We are no longer talking football just as competitors. No, when we are together as coaches, we forget which team you come from. We just discussed football,” Dladla told journalists.

Key to improving the game

Dladla further observed that the coaches working together is what has helped improve the game.

“The role that is being played by the coaches, I think, is what has been helping this game. I’m sure no one really knows about it, but we have a coaches’ symposium, which is when we really discuss it. I meant that today is no longer about being competitors. It’s about improving the game holistically,” Dladla explained.

Dladla will be hoping that after winning the Nedbank Cup and helping the team qualify for a top-eight finish, he could get the job on a full-time basis for the 2026/27 season.

He has been leading the club in the interim since the departure of Sinethemba Badela.
