The reason why Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has been dropped in recent matches could have been revealed, as former defender Siboniso Gaxa suggests why.
It came as somewhat of a surprise that Chiefs opted for Given Msimango to partner Aden McCarthy, a left-footed centre-back, instead of Miguel in the Soweto derby clash against Orlando Pirates.

However, the same centre-back partnership had prevailed and did not concede in the game prior to the derby, in a goalless draw against Polokwane City.
The Angolan centre-back had been seen as one of the first names on the team sheet, as he is one of the captains, but the return from injury of Msimango has added new competition.
According to Gaxa, the Amakhosi defence seems to be functioning better with Msimago and McCarthy in the centre and especially when Miguel is not playing.
“Msimango, McCarthy, Dortley, those are the three centre-backs for me for Chiefs going forward, maybe Kwinika can stay, you know, when I watched Chiefs (against Pirates), I saw unity (in defence), I always say the defence has to be a unit, you have to play together,” Gaxa said on Apex Sports International YouTube Channel.
“Unfortunately, when I watch Miguel, that unity is not there; people play individually, and it’s good individually, but I want unity, because you need to play as a unit to function well and not concede goals.
“You can imagine I’m good at one-on-one (situations), but I keep on conceding, what am I good at, if we’re gonna concede goals? We might as well say we’re not good one-on-one, but we don’t concede goals because someone covers for me. Every time someone beats me, there’s another defender who covers for me so we don’t concede goals, so my problem with Miguel is that he’s good as an individual but not (in) a unit,” the former Amakhosi defender added.
Third-placed Chiefs will end their season with matches against Mamelodi Sundowns (6 May), Sekhukhune United (10 May), AmaZulu (16 May), and Chippa United (23 May).
