The decision by referee Siyabulela Qunta to deny a penalty in the recent match between Kaizer Chiefs and Siwelele has sparked significant discussions within the football community.
In an unexpected turn of events, the Glamour Boys suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Bloemfontein-based side, marking their second consecutive match without a victory, shortly after being held to a 1-1 draw by rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Despite the outcry from certain sections of the Amakhosi supporters, who claimed that they were denied a clear penalty when Neo Rapoo’s challenge on Glody Lilepo unfolded in the box, former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani backed Qunta’s judgment.
Hlungwani stated, “We see Lilepo in control of the ball and as he gets to the ball, Neo makes a challenge. He [Rapoo] doesn’t get anything, but Lilepo decided to swim there trying to deceive the referee.” He emphasized that the Congolese player was attempting to fool the referee with a dive.
“If you have a look there, he [Lilepo] gets the ball. After getting the ball, and then a challenge comes in. The challenge got nothing to trip him, but he tried to fall deceiving the referee. The referee said, ‘There’s no penalty’!” he added.

Hlungwani concluded, “This is simulation trying to deceive the referee. Correct decision by the referee not to award a penalty.”
