As Nigeria gears up to compete at the CAA Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, the nation has proudly announced a formidable team poised to chase medals across various events. A total of 45 athletes, including 25 women and 20 men, have been selected by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria for this prestigious continental competition in Ghana.

Highlighting the women’s squad is world record holder Tobi Amusan, who will aim for victory in the 100m hurdles alongside team members Adaobi Tabugbo and Janet Sunday. Joining her in the spotlight is Rosemary Chukwuma, recognized as one of the season’s fastest female sprinters, who will compete in both the 100m and the 4x100m relay alongside Miracle Ezechukwu, Maria Thompson Omokwe, and Tejiri Ugoh.

The depth of the women’s team is further reinforced by seasoned athletes, including quarter-miler Patience Okon George, long jumper Ruth Usoro, and hammer throw specialist Oyesade Olatoye. Their skills and experience are anticipated to play crucial roles in Nigeria’s medal ambitions at the championships.

On the men’s side, sprint sensation Favour Ashe and Africa’s premier shot putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, will lead the charge. The men’s sprint team also features Enoch Adegoke, Usheoritse Itsekiri, and Chidera Ezakor, while the 400m events are set to be contested by anchors Samson Nathaniel, Emmanuel Ojeli, and Chidi Okezie.

Additionally, Nigeria’s versatile athletes, including Romeo Bernard, Emmanuel Audu, and javelin thrower Adams Samuel Kure will showcase their talents in various field events, strengthening the country’s overall representation.

This championship not only serves as a pivotal competition for Nigeria’s athletics team but also acts as a critical platform for athletes to test their mettle ahead of the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
