As the world watches, Nigerian sprinting sensation Tobi Amusan prepares to defend her title in the Women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships, showcasing her determination and resilience. The event is set to take place today at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.
Amusan, the reigning world record holder, made a strong impression by winning her heat with a season-best time of 12.82 seconds, comfortably securing her spot in the final.
Aiming for Glory
With her sights firmly set on victory, Amusan expressed her eagerness to compete and represent her nation. “I’m thankful to be here, representing my country, step by step on the line. I’m looking forward to defending my title tomorrow (today),” she stated in a recent press conference.
She added, “I’m just here doing my thing. It’s an amazing atmosphere. Ghana is always welcoming when it comes to hosting Championships like this. I’m just excited to be here.”
Strategic Preparation
The 29-year-old athlete also shared insights into her preparations for the upcoming season, emphasizing the importance of a strategic approach to training and competition. “My coaches and I, we sat down before the season started and spoke about the races to compete in. The few ones we selected, I’m actually managing my body,” Amusan noted.
Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, she added, “Since 2023, I have had a series of injuries; behind the scene, I’m just listening to my body and taking things easy this year.”
