In a remarkable display of athleticism, Tobi Amusan clinched her second consecutive title in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships, marking a triumphant start for Nigeria in the competition with their first gold medal.

Amusan’s outstanding performance not only solidifies her status as a leading competitor but also energizes her as she gears up for the upcoming Diamond League meeting in China on Saturday. Following her impressive win, she expressed her satisfaction with her performance, stating, “Defending my title feels incredible, and I’m excited for the challenges ahead.”

In addition to Amusan’s success, her compatriot, Adaobi Tabugbo, showcased her talent by securing a bronze medal, thanks to a strong finish after a swift start in the same race.

Team Nigeria was off to a strong start, having already secured two medals in the women’s discus event. Divine Oladipo, competing in her debut international outing for Nigeria, delivered an outstanding performance to take home the silver medal. Meanwhile, Obiageri Amaechi added to Nigeria’s success by claiming the bronze, completing a memorable achievement for the nation in the event.

With the Championships underway, Team Nigeria continues to aim for further successes as they progress throughout the competition.
