AS Monaco displayed remarkable resilience by overturning a 1-0 deficit to secure a thrilling 2-1 victory against Lyon, marking an incredible sixth consecutive Ligue 1 win, while the hosts witnessed their six-match unbeaten streak come to an abrupt end.

In a match where both teams showcased moments of brilliance, it was Monaco’s tenacity that shone through as they clawed back from behind to extend their winning streak. The visitors made their intentions clear early on, with Maghnes Akliouche nearly finding the net in the 15th minute, only to see his shot thwarted by Lyon’s goalkeeper, Dominik Greif.

Lyon responded with their own threats, as Endrick unleashed a long-range effort that forced Lukas Hradecky into a key save. Soon after, Pavel Sulc’s header veered just wide, followed by Hradecky’s reflex save to deny Orel Mangala’s curling attempt, indicating a back-and-forth battle.

Despite their impressive form, Monaco struggled to penetrate Lyon’s defense effectively. Their clearest opportunity came when Lamine Camara’s cross found two Monaco players ready for a tap-in, but Afonso Moreira intervened, clearing the danger just in time.

The match took a decisive turn in the 42nd minute when Endrick’s skillful setup allowed Sulc to hammer the ball into the net from close range, giving Lyon the lead.

As the first half drew to a close, Lyon nearly doubled their advantage, but Corentin Tolisso struck the post, with Endrick unable to capitalize on the rebound.

The second half saw both teams pushing harder for crucial goals, but it wasn’t until the 57th minute that another clear-cut chance emerged. Endrick, in a promising position, managed to evade Hradecky but was ultimately denied by Jordan Teze’s incredible defensive effort, who cleared the ball off the line.

Monaco’s persistence finally paid off five minutes later when Teze’s long ball found Akliouche, who skillfully maneuvered the ball past Greif to equalize.

With momentum swinging in their favor, Monaco won a penalty when Akliouche was fouled in the area by Tolisso. Folarin Balogun confidently stepped up to convert the penalty, expertly rolling the ball into the bottom corner, signaling a shift in the game’s narrative.

Greif then kept Lyon in contention with a smart save against Ansu Fati, while a chaotic sequence in the box saw Balogun miss a chance to extend the lead when he fired into the side netting.

In a further setback for Lyon, Nicolás Tagliafico received a red card in the 89th minute for a dangerous challenge on Camara, sealing a disappointing night for the home side, who extended their winless run to eight matches. For Monaco, this victory adds another chapter to their recent success, marking their third consecutive victory over Lyon in their last four encounters.
