Enyimba Poised for Clash Against Remo Stars with Michael’s Return

As the NPFL season approaches its climax, Enyimba have received a significant boost ahead of their critical encounter against defending champions Remo Stars this Sunday. The return of star striker Chidera Michael, who missed the recent Abia State FA Cup final, has raised spirits within the squad, Completesports.com reports.

Michael, who joined Enyimba from Ozalla FA in Anambra State at the start of the 2025/2026 season, has made an immediate impact in the elite league, netting 10 goals to become the club’s leading scorer. As the season draws to a close, his presence will be crucial in the three remaining matches.

Relegation Battle Heightens for Enyimba and Remo Stars

Enyimba currently sits in 13th place in the NPFL standings with 43 points, sharing the same tally as 15th-placed Remo Stars, who trail due to a poorer goal difference. The match is poised to be a decisive moment for both sides as they strive to avoid relegation.

Adding to the intrigue is Enyimba winger Ezekiel Edidiong, a former player for Remo Stars, who is eager to make an impact against his old club. Edidiong, who previously played for Akwa United, has expressed that overcoming his sentimental ties to Remo is essential as Enyimba looks to secure vital points.

Emotions Run High for Edidiong Ahead of Remo Showdown

While acknowledging the emotional stakes of facing his former team, Edidiong emphasized that Enyimba’s objective remains paramount. “I had sweet memories with Remo Stars and I am looking forward to playing against them this weekend,” he stated. “I feel a bit emotional regarding the memories I had with them, but right now the pride of the People’s Elephant comes first.”

Edidiong is expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming match against Remo Stars, guided by Coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s well-organized tactics. Notably, he made a significant contribution by scoring during their earlier meeting in Abeokuta.

Fans Encouraged to Back Enyimba in Critical Match

In a heartfelt appeal, Edidiong urged the passionate Enyimba supporters to fill the stadium and act as the club’s “12th man” in their quest for an essential victory against Remo Stars. “I want to call on the esteemed fans of Enyimba to turn up in their numbers and support us as we go for a ‘non-negotiable’ three points against Remo Stars,” he added.

However, Enyimba faces some injury concerns with centre-back Emeka Onyema racing to recover from an injury sustained in the recent cup final. Peter Afolayan, who was substituted in the last league match, is also a doubt for this critical encounter.

Historically, the matchup between Enyimba and Remo Stars has seen Remo take the lead with five wins compared to Enyimba’s four, while six matches have ended in draws.
