Nigeria is set to take the spotlight in African football by hosting the prestigious 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards Ceremony and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly. This significant announcement was made as part of the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, where discussions culminated in a meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
The CAF General Assembly is scheduled for October 2026 and is expected to draw key stakeholders from across the continent. In attendance at the pivotal meeting were influential figures including Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and Amaju Melvin Pinnick (OFR), Special Adviser to the CAF President, alongside CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.
This Ordinary General Assembly will convene prominent leaders in African football, gathering the presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, representatives from the six zonal unions, and senior football officials, providing a crucial platform for collaboration and development in the sport.
Additionally, the CAF Awards is an annual highlight in African football, celebrating exceptional performances within the sport, and is renowned for its extravagant and glamorous atmosphere.
