Casric Stars defender Justice Chabalala has named the top three coaches he worked with his career, including Rulani Mokwena.
The former Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates defender joined Casric as a free agent at the beginning of February after leaving Gomora United in January. It’s the first time this season he s playing football in the second tier of South African football, having spent over 10 years in the topflight.

During his time in the topflight, Chabalala worked with a number of coaches, but there are three which stand out for him.
“I can say there are many, but I can start with coach Middendorp because he is the one who made me play PSL (at Free State Stars). Middendorp taught me how to be hard and how to suffer. Also coach Dan Malesela. He is a coach who will teach you how to trap the ball and how to pass. He likes smart players. There are different coaches who got me to where I am today,” Chabalala said to Soccer Laduma.
“There is coach Rulani. People may ask why I am praising Rulani when he did not play me at Pirates, but we have to mention the good things he did for me. To be honest, he taught me a lot about details in football. You can see where he is today. I am not surprised to see where he is. Even in his house, it’s always football. There are TVs in all the rooms,” said the former Bucs defender.
There are leadership qualities he’s learnt along the way which are helping him in his role as a senior player at Casric. The club is fighting to win promotion to the Betway Premiership and there are moments they’ve let themselves down.

“We were lacking responsibility. Sometimes, inside the field, we are waiting for the coach (to give instructions). Sometimes as a footballer, you must take a risk without telling the coach. There are points where we’ve been lacking leadership and commitment and responsibility that can make you win the games,” Chabalala said.
We had a meeting and we’ve spoken that we can’t blame the coaches. We can look at what we can fix. We must take full responsibility”
